Did ABC censor Spike Lee?
CVK
As we mentioned on Monday, Spike Lee’s new documentary on the Katrina disaster aired this week on HBO. According to Alternet, ABC may have “sanitized” his interview on “This Week” to strip out all critical comments towards the Bush Administration. Click over to the site to see the videos:
In video one (the top video to the right), we show the extended version of Lee’s interview that ABC only made available on their website.
In video two (the bottom video to the right), we show the sanitized version that ABC aired on TV.
Of course, ABC has every editorial right to pull whatever they feel is best from the extended interview, but after watching both, I can’t help but think that they made a conscious decision to edit out critical comments.

How can it be censorship if ABC allowed the entire video to air on its website?
I think it’s pretty clear what Lee’s political leanings are … I’m sure the editorial decision was made to keep the focus of the interview on Katrina and its victims.
There’s nothing wrong with that.

Censorship is not a zero-sum game.
You can’t talk about Katrina & NOT talk about the President & his Administration. Why are you so sure that an editorial decision wasn’t made to avoid criticizing the administration. I wonder what kind of editorial decisions predicated the baby-raped-in-the-bathroom-shooting-at-helicoptors rumor mill?
