Great links, especially the one to Dr. Hill. I also wrote about Yo Momma for a pop culture website that I write for. I’d love to know what some of you think about it: http://www.popmatters.com/columns/young/060706.shtml

Great article. Are blacks the only ones racially disparaged on this show?

Hey Courtney, great article — thanks for drawing our attention to it! I’ve seen a couple episodes of “Yo Momma” and I have to say that I’m amazed it’s caught on. The jokes are lame and the whole thing has this really awkward, stilted tone.
You bring up great points about the racial remarks that seem to pass unnoticed on this show — or even celebrated. I’m also bothered by the colorism aspect: seems like every single joke somehow involved how dark someone was, how black someone was. And these jokes most often seemed to come from other black contestants. –CVK
