When black women stop accepting these demeaning roles and demand respect, than this type of entertainment will continue. A person can only knock you down if you allow them. Black women need to garner more respect and stop looking at dollar signs and notoriety to be important.

Specifically addressing the Dairy Queen commercial, the woman being hit repeatedly by the suitcase had an appropriate response. I don’t think that was a “sassy” example. Also, if you notice there are some actors that get cast in a lot commercials at the same time. This actress is an example of that phenomenon.

I do think there is “loud and sassy” stereotype about heavy black women that pervades popular media. For the most part, I don’t think it is unkind, but it can degenerate into caricature.

I would think that all white men are thieves by nature.

For all my life I thought that white men were natural-born rapist because of the racist treatment they dealt out to black women by singling out and targeting black women for rape.

Not white women.

Not Native American women.

Not Latino women.

Not Asian women.

Black women.

I thought this way about white men up to only a few years ago, but, then can you blame me?

i would be pretty sassy and annoyed if a someones large carry on bag was repeatedly dropped on my head. I didn’t think her reaction was totally out of line for this type of situation.

So if we are talking about the stereotypes of the black woman in this commercial, what are the stereotypes of the white people being played out in this commercial? What do you think about the the white man who is repeatedly stealing the guys frosty oh so good drink? (the white man is sneaky and steals, and has not self control?)

I am not saying terrible racial stereotpyes don’t happen, but does context (ie carry-on being repeatedly dropped on head) every trump that?
