Hey MMW readers,

If you’re in the NYC area, join us for our very first Mixed Media Watch/SwirlNYC field trip! We’re going to watch the new film “The Motel” at the Film Forum this Wednesday, June 28th at 8:00 PM. The entire cast and crew will be there for a Q&A and discussion after the screening, so it’ll be a lot of fun.

Be sure to click here and buy your tickets online ahead of time! The Film Forum is located at 209 West Houston Street near 6th Avenue. We (Jen and I) will wait outside the theater so come and find us there! This is what we look like.

Here’s what the film is all about:

Thirteen-year-old Ernest Chin lives and works at a sleazy hourly-rate motel on a strip of desolate suburban bi-way. Misunderstood by his family and blindly careening into puberty, Ernest befriends Sam Kim, a self-destructive yet charismatic Korean American man who has checked in. Sam teaches the fatherless boy all the rites of manhood. From the producers of “Me and You and Everyone We Know” and “The Good Girl.” Directed by Michael Kang.

The film stars Jeffrey Chyau as Ernest, and Sung Kang as Sam Kim. You’ve seen Sung Kang in “Better Luck Tomorrow” and he’s currently starring as Han in “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.” Keep an eye on Addicted to Race, as we’ll be interview Kang and the director of “The Motel,” Michael Kang, on the podcast very soon.

Check out the film’s official Web site here and watch the trailer here. We hope to see you there on Wednesday!

UPDATE on ticket sales: You can buy tickets online here BUT online tickets for the 8pm show on Wednesday are sold out. There are 50 left that can be bought at the Film Forum’s actual box office after noon on the day, though. If you want to be sure to get one, apparently, a line forms, so probably good to get there a bit early.
