“Are you scared by the size of their BMW?”

CVK
tyson beckford(Many thanks to Brittney for unearthing this gem!) Asiana is an online magazine for South Asians in the U.K. and ran this article — a roundtable of various women’s views on dating black men. It’s pretty clear just from glancing at the page that the publication completely buys into the sexual stereotypes of black men. The article is illustrated with two photos of shirtless, muscular black celebrities (Tyson Beckford and I believe the other one is Tyrese but I’m not 100% sure).

While the roundtable does talk about racism towards blacks, cultural appropriation, and interracial tensions, it takes about two seconds for them to get to “the size of their you-know-what.” And from there, the conversation gets really, really dumb:

Black men are perceived as having a better physique, stamina and generally well endowed. Does that work in their favour or work against them?
S: What guy wouldn’t want to be thought of in that way? But we know it’s a myth, so there’s little point perpetrating that.
R: But hang on, a lot of Black guys are like that. Let’s not be so PC that we ignore that.
M: Which can be a little bit intimidating…
C: Or make you feel safe.
M: I think being big and strong can scare a lot of girls off.
C: Rubbish! What are you saying? That girls fancy wimpy blokes with tiny todgers? (Everyone except Meghna laughs)
M: No you misunderstand. A lot of girls don’t like the whole macho thing and a lot of Black men use that machismo as part of their persona which…
S: Which can be off-putting.
R: Fair enough, but are you scared by the size of their BMW?
M: What have their cars got to do with anything?
C: Black Man’s Willy! (Everyone laughs)
S: Size doesn’t matter, it’s what you do with it that counts.
C: It does matter!
S: No it doesn’t.
C: Yes it does.
M: It doesn’t.
C: Does.

As if that weren’t enough, the next question posed by the facilitator is this:

There’s a common complaint made by our Black sisters that Black men aren’t as respectful to their women as they could be. Apparently they’re not very good at going downstairs…

[…] Either way the entire issue is interesting. But I have to ask. Do Asian men really want to be super-sexualized in the West? I mean look at what it’s done to us (I felt like a damned animal reading this article)! […]

    disgusting

I find it a bit ironic that these women are wondering about how “they treat THEIR women” (1) women are NOT property (2) in the same breath they talk about their brothers getting pissed about the “family honor”.

ummmm….You best worry about your OWN community!!!

I guess it’s ok to have a big black buck fantasy - just don’t bring him home.

I wonder how many black men are aware of this belief AND still go after sex????

So, how hard would it be to get a round table of women who date (far eastern) Asian men to discuss the penis myth? or better yet the women who date black men vs. the women who date Asian men. The side that wins they get to have lasting happy relationships.
    (I am slightly serious)

FYI, to put this article a little more into context, in the UK when they say “Asian”, they mean Indian, Pakistani or Bangledeshi. That is why one of them said you see “Asian guys with Chinese girls”.

So blacks men in the U.K. are also stereotyped? This article was confusing. Why do they equate black men in the U.K. with black men in the U.S. (a lot of the ‘one night stands’ they were citing were black Americans)? Is there a lot of overlap between perceptions of black men here (U.S.) and there? The rapists and thieves line was too much…

Black Men do indeed have big penises. That’s just the way of the road, boys.

    1 hung like dogs
    2. Dont respect women (like white men are so non- sexist)
    3. Use maschimo
    4. have better bodies

    Thes women watch too many

    1. Porn
    2. Rap Videos
    3. listened to one to many love songs
    4. and listened to too many black women who hate BM

At the end of the day who cares, I would rather have women like that stay away from me and no I don’t have a deep voice, don’t listen to commerical hip- hop, I respect women (the majority of black men do) and yes I am hung like a beast (truthfully)

And I am tired of women who choose to sleep with the ‘bad boy’ type of black men and then have the nerve to get angry when they dog them out of..

    1. panties
    2. money
    3. emotional stablity

That’s what many of you ladies want in a black male, so those skanks should take reponsilbity for their desires and leave the millions of black who don’t “fit” their profile.

ED: 1) you need to hang out with a better caliber of women (of all backgrounds) evidently. 2) A lot of what people SAY they want (especially in a peer group) is not what they actually want/need and/or is not what they want once they have it. 3) at a certain age, perceived status or street cred can take precedence over actual compatability and well, sanity (the “look who I’m dating, ain’t I cute” phenomenon. Those who are wise outgrow it (of course I know a 40ish mother of 2 who makes some dumb mate choices regardless of age).

Wow, there seems to be this idealized image of black men going on in that article.Kind of funny.

“I guess it’s ok to have a big black buck fantasy - just don’t bring him home.”

That pretty much sums it up for at least some situations.

“I wonder how many black men are aware of this belief AND still go after sex????”

I would guess quite a few.Doesn’t matter if it’s a black man, or woman or whatever race.If you want sex, you don’t care if your viewed as a fetish. It’s like people who want you only for your money or car, same thing.

This is a vile article. Given the racism that Asian (Indian and Pakistanis) people face in Britain, how can these women traffick in such vile racist rantings? The rates of poverty and crime amongst South Asians in Britain are very high. Weren’t issues of poverty and alienation cited amongst reasons for last year’s terrorist bombings of the London by Asian-Brits?

So, discussing black men in terms of crimes and then labeling them as suffering from machismo when the women discuss the issues of “honour” amongst their male relatives is blindingly stupid. When is the last time you heard of Afro-Caribbean Brit involved in an honor killing?

    Blech.

In my opinion, black guys in the united states are ghetto, violent, lack class and self-respect, and love to harass women. I am east indian descent and won’t even look black guys in the face anymore, because I am SO tired of being hit on, hooted and hollered at, and harassed.

It’s truly disgusting, as I am not even attracted to black guys, and just want them to leave me alone. Several of my indian girlfriends have had similar experiences.

So, if you are a black guy reading this: please get some class and self-respect and leave indian women ALONE. We don’t like you, our families don’t like you, and we prefer guys that are preppy/sophisticated/intelligent/wealthy/well-educated. Not some ghetto trash rapper.

Well Anon; Thanks for that bit of racism. Don’t forget you are a person of color. It seems as though you are judging all for the actions of some. As for your opinion, It is just that an opinion. It has no reliable bases or fact.
I heard you say, “If you are black guys reading this, get some class. Well
“Missy Anne”, where is your class? Apparently the statement ,”We don’t like you and our famlies don’t like you.”, surely is racist. Since when do you speak for everyone in your race. You get some class, self respect, and just maybe you would be treated with some. Remember beauty is only skin deep, but ugly is to the bone. I see why you are treated the way you are. I don’t think our mothers would be to interested in you either.,
