This story out of Pennsylvania is a bit bizarre. Bobbi Jo Quarzenski pled guilty to bilking three parties out of thousands of dollars by offering to give them her child in an adoption scam:

Police said she was pregnant and put her child up for adoption. She accepted money for rent, bills and other living expenses from three parties interested in adopting the child, but never intended to give her child up, police said…

…Quarzenski later said she never scammed anyone. The case was full of confusion, she said. According to Quarzenski:

She initially believed she was pregnant by a white attorney from the area. But Quarzenski, who is also white, had a black boyfriend. Her boyfriend believed the child was his, and Quarzenski wanted to keep her boyfriend from knowing she was pregnant by someone else.

Quarzenski also had a son and did not want any more children. She explored the adoption process with the intention of going through with it. That all changed when she gave birth. She saw that her newborn child was biracial and realized her boyfriend was the father.
