Parminder says interracial relationships are nothing new

JC
parminder nagraActress Parminder Nagra is interviewed by Craig Ferguson about her role on TV show, ER. He brings up the fact that her character is in an interracial relationship and asks whether she has gotten flack for it. She mentioned that she has been contacted by media numerous times to comment on this, but that she doesn’t seem to think that interracial relationships are any big deal anymore. Thanks to Eva for the heads-up on this!

If her character on ER was with a white guy, no one would bother to ask her about it. But because her TV husband is black, the media are all over it.

^ You damn skippy. May The Lord earplug us from the screams of joy when any non-white male dating/loving/sexing down a desired object of affection/fetish/masturbation fantasy for the good ol’ white guy standard (outside of the ghetto of stereotype-ridden pornos) won’t be percieved as a “problem.”

ER has an interesting and very strong record on racial and interracial issues. Right from season 1, the character of Jingmei Chen presented an interesting take on Chinese-Americans, interracial relationships between her as a Chinese-American and African-Americans (Pratt, in the end), and also racism within her Chinese-American family.

ER has created interracial relationships and explored issues that accompany it, but wait one demographic that ER has failed to introduce is a leading Asian/Asian Amerian male. Even more the racial pairings have varied except when it comes to Asian and AA males. See a pattern….it isn’t just in this show either.
