Tiger Woods’ dad dies at age 74
CVK
(Thanks to T for this!) Sad news today from California — Tiger Woods’ father, Earl Woods, died at his home in Cypress, CA. From the San Francisco Chronicle:
“My dad was my best friend and greatest role model, and I will miss him deeply,” Tiger Woods said on his Web site. “I’m overwhelmed when I think of all of the great things he accomplished in his life. He was an amazing dad, coach, mentor, soldier, husband and friend. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him, and I’m honored to continue his legacy of sharing and caring.”
A habitual smoker who had heart bypass surgery in 1986, Woods was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1998 and was treated with radiation, but the cancer returned in 2004 and spread throughout his body.

That’s what he gets for saying he is “cablinasian”. And that’s that.

okay cystic…whether or not you agree with tiger wood’s comments on being “cablinasian,” (which i don’t) i have to say that you are mean spirited and heartless…to kick someone when their father has died shows just what kind of person you are…do you know the old adage, if you have nothing nice to say…(fill in the blanks)…

Cystic,
You’re happy that a good man is dead and his family is suffering? What has Tiger Woods ever done to you personally?

Tiger’s family is not suffering at all. His dad was 74 not 40. He is at best upset and a little disappointed but hardly suffering. He is very well off to say the least and it was time for his dad to go anyway.
Ok, I apologize, cause I know if i continue in this vain I’ll start to sound like that A.D Powell lady that would post on here - cold and vindictive.
I never liked that type of writing style where you come off purely aloof but are kept afloat with statistics.
Tiger is not such a bad guy. I just don’t know where his vision lies. How do octoroons help? Or whatever type of ‘roons he will bear?

1. It’s obvious from your comments that you have never watched a close relative or friend die of cancer. At any age, it IS tragic. And it is NOT pain-free, for both the cancer patient and those who are part of the patient’s care. So what element of “suffering” is missing here?
2. The article was posted here because Mr. Woods is a prominant mixed-race individual, not because the familial tragedy is “better” or “worse” than anyone else’s by virtue of multiraciality. Also, because the wider media has wondered if/how Wood’s father’s illness/death would affect his game (and have they ever wondered about any OTHER players?)
3. “I never liked the type of writing style where you come off purely aloof but are kept afloat with statistics.” - so you’d rather jump up and down (being the first commenter on an article) and be abrasive, rude, and misinformed WITHOUT using statistics? OK then. Hope that works out well for you.
4. The tired “cablinasian” comment - look, that was something that he mentioned that he came up with AS A YOUNG TEENAGER - he was basically trying to say multiracial/multiethnic, or white/black/asian. He wasn’t saying that he STILL used the word as an adult. Damn, people, read the transcript. Do you really want an idea that you had at 13 used against you as an adult? Oh wait, Cystic may be 13. My bad.
5. Kudos for pretending to apologize and write more than one sentence. You still wrote to get a reaction and you got it.
Hi Troll! Bye Troll!

Cystic,
Have you ever loved anyone in your life who died? Age has nothing to do with one’s feelings of grief and heartbreak. As for Woods calling himself Cablinasian, who cares? What right do you have to tell anyone how he should label himself?
Also, what is up with the “roon” comment? Tiger Woods and his wife will have children. Period. The Woods family is no relation to you. Why do you care about the genetic makeup of some other man’s children?
As for A.D. Powell, you are right up there with her vicious evilness.
A human being has died. A wife has lost her husband. Children have lost their father. If you doubt that people are suffering, then you are truly inhuman.
