Now it’s not a hate crime?

CVK
David Henry Tuck Keith Robert Turner(Thanks to Nishan for this tip) Two teenage white boys have been charged with an absolutely horrific attack against a Latino boy. From The Washington Post:

Authorities said the two dragged the boy from a house party Saturday and into the yard, where they sodomized him with a plastic pipe from a patio table umbrella and poured bleach on him. Trent on Friday described the pipe as being sharpened at one end and said Tuck stomped on the boy with steel-toe boots and kicked the pipe into him.

At one point, the teens tried to carve something on the boy’s chest with a knife, he told CNN Friday…

Bleach was poured over the boy’s body in an attempt to destroy DNA evidence, Sheriff’s Lt. John Denholm said.

Trent said Friday that doctors had also told investigators they suspected some kind of toxicity in his internal organs that may have been caused by foreign substance, “which makes me wonder if they didn’t pour bleach down the pipe as well.”

What’s odd about this story is that when it first broke, (check out this CNN report for example) the motivation behind the crime appeared to be that the Latino boy tried to kiss a white girl at the house party. But now, this Washington Post story is saying that the girl was Latina, not white, and that prosecutors won’t be seeking hate crime charges against the white teens. The prosecutor explains:

“I don’t know that the very beginning of the attack was racial,” Trent said, “but there’s no question that they were venting quite a bit of hatred in their hearts.”

Hmmm… how is it not a hate crime when the teens were yelling racial slurs as they were sodomizing and beating the boy? Also (and this is pure speculation on my part) I wonder if the boys thought the girl was white when in reality she was Latina? In which case, the reason for them attacking the Latino boy was clearly racially motivated–even if it involved a case of mistaken racial identity.

What’s particularly revolting about this case is that nobody called 911 until ten hours after the attack happened, even though there were multiple witnesses to the crime.

[…] Yesterday I loosely paralleled the recent hate crime that occurred in Spring, Texas to the 1955 Emmitt Till tragedy. The entire foundation of my argument rested on the fact that the little girl who the Hispanic* boy kissed was White, which is what the original CNN.com article described her as. Well, according to my buddies over at MMW (via a Washington Post article), the girl was actually Hispanic? According to WaPo, it seems as if: The attackers apparently were offended at the age difference between the victim and the girl, who is also Hispanic, and shouted racial slurs at him during the 10- to 15-minute attack, investigators said.” […]

This is horrible! It doesn’t matter whether the girl was black, white, blue, green, etc., this is still a hate crime!!! They didn’t want that boy kissing that girl, period. If you don’t want someone kissing someone else, you don’t sodomize them with a plastic tube and then pour bleach all over them. That’s just plain wrong.

THe immigration issues are rising hatred among even the youngest people in this nation. I knew that things were getting hostile bit this is taking it too far. It makes me sad….. i hate to see my people attaked out of pure hatred. It sounds like the controversy back in the day about interracial relationships….

Absolutely brutal assaults like this SHOULD be a federal crime, regardless of ethnicity. And whether the victim is or isn’t a particular group should take second place to what the assailants THOUGHT the person was or was doing. Belief + Intent = Motive.

Reading the article, I’m not shocked that drugs were involved. Supposedly the one adult in the house (they’ve now said it wasn’t a “party”) slept it off… I mean, slept, through everything - I CALL SHENANIGANS - bull… in my family we always know WHO is in the house and WHEN they leave. What is this filth reading/watching to get these ideas in the first place?

Hate crime is 360. Yes, this very well may be a hate crime. But in all fairness, much more crime is geared towards whites than vice versa. Fact is fact and stats bear this out. What I don’t see on this website is any 360 commentary or fairness. You have an agenda and it is skewed. Tis a pity.

If you want credibility, then post on it all, not just those items aligned with your agenda. Otherwise you are merely phony.

This conduct is absolutely unexceptable behavior no matter what the motive was behind the hatred. There is NO excuse for what these boys did to this other boy that would justify their actions. Hate was obviously involved, and they acted this hate in a extremely shameful cruel way.

Here we go again with the “us whites are the real victims” red herring. Isn’t it interesting how these people pop up as soon as there’s a media report of white racists attacking other ethnicities?

    Serene,

We very much DO have an agenda. That’s the point of this blog! We are trying to shed light on issues that aren’t covered *anywhere* else. What you will see posted here are opinions and comments that align with our agenda.

But…very interested in seeing those stats that you mention. I am not interested in playing the whole “X people have it worse off” game, but if you have info to share that we don’t know about, please do! - JC

Has any one else noticed how the hearts and minds cliché follows commentary about white supremacists? Some people don’t have hearts or maybe they just don’t get the white privilege.

Serene: Yes, there is a lot more white on white crime. Simply because there are more white folks. (PS: how do you define “white?” There a lot of “white”-looking Latinos.)

Or are you trying to insinuate that there are lots of vulnerable white folks out there being preyed upon by other ethnicities? Cause if you are, then I will just remind myself that laughter is good for the soul.

As for hate crimes in the US, statistically, it usually IS white-identified perpetrators. I’ll leave it up to you to know why.

And as for “balanced,” whatever that means, as the mods pointed out, this is NOT a crime journal - then you cry “bias” or whatever you’re claiming.

I do notice the lack of empathy/outrage regarding the story. I guess it reflects your priorities.

vile. I agree that the assailants’ belief that the girl was white is more important than whether or not she is white or Latina. That belief underlies their intent to brutalize this boy.

It’s not enough to beat the kid, they have to sodomize him with weapons. Emmett Till’s genitalia were cut off. This happened in other lynchings too. What do you all make of this white male obssession with non-white sexuality and white women?

well…rest assured when they get to prison it will come right back at them.

See, violence is violence and should be opposed. I get no consolation wondering if these two poor excuses for homo sapiens will be attacked in prison. I just hope the victim gets the physical and psychological therapy to piece his life back together.

Besides, there’s a very real chance that these two would get scooped up by a NeoNazi group in prison and held up as poster children for anti-mud people everywhere.

  13. gatamala wrote:

Yeah…you’re right Lyonside. Aryan Nation would love these two…

I JUST put this on my blog! I am still flabbergasted and full of hate. I swear, “The hate that hate built” is a phrase that I feel everyday. It is a battle to not lump all white people together. I know it’s wrong. But it often feels like they band together to protect the horror of their own…the unfairness of it all drains my common sense. I just pray, ya’ll…

Okay, feel better now after reading the comments, knowing I’m not alone in my horror. No, I won’t be falling for the supremacist okeydoke of hating all people of one race. Serene made me want to commit violence against her though for that ignit comment. But I reassure myself that she did it to cause drama, and that people like her are the reason for The Hate that Hate Built.

Here is some information for you all. I think this is what Serena may have been hinting at:

    http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/race.htm

    Key stat from the page
86% of white victims were killed by whites
94% of black victims were killed by blacks

  17. Lyonside wrote:

Unlisted: Yeah, but I think Serene was implying that there are a hoarde of unreported hate crimes where minorities are the perps and whites are the victims. Bizarro World, yes, but I’ve heard the same from white supremists for years. “Tis a pity.” ;)

This was an act of pure hatred and should be punished as a hate crime. The courts need to make an example of these two teenage boys and let people know this kind of behavior is unnacceptable. ( Did these boys learn this kind of hatred from their parents?) To do something like that you have to be sick, in the head….. My prayers go out too the young victim.

  19. SLR wrote:

It gives some comfort to know that when these young men get to prison, they may face the same humiliation and suffering that they inflicted on this poor, young boy. I think they should know what it feels like ot be punched, kicked and sodomized with a sharp object…and have bleach poured all over their open wounds. And perhaps they will get that opportunity when Bubba at the state pen gets through with them.

Ignorance is a mutha’ isn’t it?
