Another film role for Alicia Keys

According to Yahoo! News, Alicia Keys has been cast in the big-screen adaptation of the best-selling book, “The Nanny Diaries.” The film features Scarlett Johansson as a nanny for a wealthy Manhattan family. Keys will play the nanny’s best friend.
The character is a far cry from the assassin she plays in the upcoming action flick “Smokin’ Aces,” which features Ben Affleck, Andy Garcia, Jeremy Piven and Ray Liotta. Keys, 25, and longtime manager Jeff Robinson formed a production company, Big Pita, Lil’ Pita, in January that will create original television and movie projects — and even more acting opportunities for Keys.
Hmmm… we haven’t heard anything about Composition in Black and White in awhile. The one produced by Halle Berry, where Keys was supposed to play mixed piano prodigy Philippa Schuyler? Maybe it’s been cancelled.

I read her biography: (abusive) parents wanted to prove a hybrid would be intellectually superior and fed her a special diet of raw liver (gag!!). As an adult, Schuler joined the John Birch Society to preach against the evils of communism and the brown folks. For a while, she used a different name because she decided she was white. Sadly, she died in a helicopter crash while performing on a USO tour of Vietnam.
As for Keys, it’s sad to see her stuck in the “bestfriend” role that people of color often play. I’m more interested in seeing her play an assassin.

I like Alicia - great singer, gorgeous girl. However, it pisses me off that this is just another case of the person of color being cast as a side-kick best friend. Casting for leads in Hollywood is clearly not a colorblind process.
