However, it pisses me off that this is just another case of the person of color being cast as a side-kick best friend. Casting for leads in Hollywood is clearly not a colorblind process. I read her biography: (abusive) parents wanted to prove a hybrid would be intellectually superior and fed her a special diet of raw liver (gag!!). As an adult, Schuler joined the John Birch Society to preach against the evils of communism and the brown folks. For a while, she used a different name because she decided she was white. Sadly, she died in a helicopter crash while performing on a USO tour of Vietnam. As for Keys, it's sad to see her stuck in the "bestfriend" role that people of color often play.
