(Shout-out to Angry Asian Man for this one!) A beauty pageant called Miss Asia USA–which apparently has been going on for 18 years–is currently looking for contestants.

No, I’m not suggesting that all our MMW readers should apply, I just thought it was interesting that they specified a racial cut-off point in the description of candidate eligibility:

1. Female of at least 25% Asian ancestry from one of the 58 Countries in the Asian Continent

2. Between the ages of 17 to 28 years old

3. Applicant must be single, of good moral character, never been married and never had any children

I wonder how a contestant would go about proving that she has at least “25%” Asian ancestry? Do you have to submit a family tree? Take a DNA test? I know that back in the day, courts would enforce anti-miscegenation laws by bringing in “experts” to verify the races of couples who wanted to marry each other. Apparently, they would do everything from examine the texture of their hair to the color of their nipples. All to make sure the white bloodline wasn’t tainted by yellow, brown or black blood.
