Imitation of Life, CSI Miami-style
CVK
This week’s episode of CSI Miami had me CRACKING up! It involved a guy who was suspected of murdering his wife. As the episode unfolded, the whole story was revealed. Basically, he married her after knowing her for only a month. It wasn’t until after they were married that he found out her mom was black. He’s secretly a white supremacist so this didn’t make him too happy. Here’s how the dialogue went:
Her: [pleading] I wasn’t trying to hide it from you. It’s just that I don’t go around telling everyone that I’m half black!
Him: [scoffs] Yeah well I wouldn’t either.
Her: [hurt silence]
Him: [angrily] What are our kids going to look like??
Her: Like me?
Him: You mean like a half breed???
Wow, talk about STRAIGHT out of “Imitation of Life.” I mean, I guess something like that could happen in 2006, but the way the show handled it was just so awkward and weird. Especially right at the end, when Horatio has one of his trademark emphatic phrases, and it was something corny like “Hate is something we should all care about.”
Downgrade, for sure.

Wow! That is wierd for show in 2006. Does anybody actually use the term, “halfbreed” anymore when speaking of humans? As a noun, it is an extremely offensive term that was mostly used to describe mixed offspring of white and Native American parents. I am thinking it was included to garner publicity for the show. I’ll have to check on the script writer for that episode. Pretty bizarre! Good catch Carmen.

Trust me, you WANT to stay as far away as possible from Law & Order: Criminal Intent. That show is so bad, it hurts.
