Wisconsin interracial couple’s house burnt down

CVK
Sadly, there’s another case to add to our long list of hate crimes against interracial couples. WBAY-TV reports that a couple in Wisconsin returned from vacation to find their house burnt down, and a racial epithet spraypainted on a car nearby:

A Manitowoc County couple returned from a vacation overseas to find their home completely gutted by fire, and police say it was definitely arson. Now they’re investigating whether it was fueled by racism. The owners of the house on North 7th Street in Manitowoc are an interractial couple. Police say a racial slur was spray-painted in black on a vehicle parked behind the house.

“At this time, it is unknown if there is a relationship between the racial epiphet at the scene and the arson investigation,” Police Chief Perry Kingsbury said. “If it is determined that this crime is biased-motivated, the law provides the penalty enhancer for this type of criminal behavior”… Investigators won’t say if they have any strong leads or persons of interest. But the mayor says whoever is accountable for the arson will pay.

“This is one blemish I will not allow. I will not allow this to be the face of Manitowoc,” he said.

No one was home at the time of the fire Friday night. The family returned Saturday afternoon from a trip to London. The couple had their house listed for sale last summer, and they continued to live there. The couple is now staying with family.

    Glad noone was hurt.

When a synagogue about 10 miles away from me was defaced, the whole neighborhood turned out to clean up and repair the damage. I was happy that THAT was what made the local news, not just the damage.

I hope the same thing happens here.
