Interracial relationships “far outlive” other relationships?

CVK
alfre woodardI love Alfre Woodard for being so open and outspoken about being in an interracial marriage and having mixed kids, but I don’t know about this latest quote she gave the CourierPostOnline:

Alfre Woodard has a theory about interracial romances. She believes they “far, far, far outlive” most relationships because the participants are forced to adopt an us-against-them philosophy of life. “You’ve got to be more honest with your partner,” she reasons. “When you come together, you are partners against the world.”

This seems a bit naive to me… But then again, it’s quite possible that she was misquoted, or that the reporter completely took her words out of context. Wouldn’t be the first time! (Yes, I speak from experience.)

hmph. I hate theories that can be proven or disproven with data, but aren’t.

the problem with this kind of argument is that it’s totally subjective, and couple specific.

For example, you could just as easily make the argument that “goth” couples “are forced to adopt an us-against-them philosophy of life”, or overweight couples, or any kind of couple that themselves feel outcast from “normal” society.

Well–this is just silly. I am happy that Alfre has the blessing of a long-term committed marriage, interracial or otherwise. No need to place the fact that it is interracial on a pedestal–like interracial marriage is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

This woman is a phoney if you ask me. I wouldn’t give her statement much weight. There are plenty of interracial couples who break for a variety of reasons. Marraige is marriage, I don’t care what the ethnic background is of the two participants. And no person should have to struggle in any relationship.

Wowzers! I guess I have to put Alfre on the list with Morgan Freeman. Honestly? They’re getting old, like Oprah. Their views on things change slightly with age, as do most folks. Well, except Harry Belafonte! lol But seriously, Alfre was really wrong for that. I am hoping it was a misquote.
