Here are some other stories worth checking out.
Between Two Worlds: Born in the U.S.A. to Asian Parents, a Generation of Immigrants’ Kids Forges a New Identity - Time magazine’s pretty decent piece on Asian-American identity today (thanks, Phil C!). Talks about stuff we’re all familiar with: the model minority myth, being perceived as exotic, the perpetual foreigner syndrome: “Where are you really from?”
6 months for ex-Oakland cop in harassment cases - San Francisco Chronicle update (thanks Tre Love!) on the Asiaphile cop story we told you about back in August. Apparently a slap on the wrists is all that’s necessary when you conduct illegal traffic stops in order to grope Asian women.
Face it, we’ve changed - Sydney Morning Herald article about the changing face (literally) of Australia. “The iconic Paul Hogan look-alike always was a myth, despite still being used in government advertisements and to give a face to faceless corporations.” And of course the article mentions the growing numbers of mixed Aussies. (Thanks Phil C!)
Serving Black TV - A Los Angeles Times profile of Reginald Hudlin, the new entertainment president of BET. Covers his plans for original programming, his fallout with Aaron McGruder, etc. Also check out The Bible of Hip Hop’s caustic take on Hudlin.

About that cop…I hate to say it, but that is a serial rapist/killer in training. So great…a slap on the wrist…let’s wait until he actually kills someone. Asses.

Konnichiwa, ni hao? Single American cop seeks oriental ladies, preferably vulnerable immigrants skilled in massage and American male servitude. Kind of like in all those Asian-themed movies I watch over and over by myself in the back row at the dollars. Don’t call me, I’ll call you after I pull you over and pat you down! You’ll recognize me by my seedy grin, potbelly neatly tucked into my cream “donut”-stained uniform pants and sweaty, hairy palms. See you out on the roads! Woo-woo!

I saw the director of Memoirs of a Geisha on E! he was so tidy and neatly dressed. He reminded me of Christian Bale in American Psycho not Police Chief Wiggum.
