Usher “In the Mix”
JC
Keep an eye out for “In the Mix,” a new interracial flick featuring Usher. It debuts in a few days. In Usher’s words, the plot:
“What the plot of the story is, well, a young city DJ named Darrell Williams, aged 26, has one of the hottest clubs in New York City,” the singer began. “He gets himself invited to a party for a mafia princess … and ends up taking the bullet for a mafia boss played by Chazz Palminteri. After that, my character is asked to be [bodyguard to] Dolly Pacelli, who happens to be played by Emmanuelle Chriqui. After that, basically the plot unfolds, you know — life is what happens when you’re making other plans.”

Did anybody see the poster for this thing? You see the torso of Usher being pulled in all directions by mostly what appears to be female arms? Did anybody else think this struck of “She Hate Me” all over again?

I think it’s interesting that when a Hollywood movie features a black man in an interracial relationship, it’s with a “brown” white woman–She’s Puerto Rican, Italian, Spanish…anthing but Anglo.
Is this their way of pairing black men with light-skinned women whilst not offending anyone? Are they perpetuating the stereotype that lighter-skinned women are more desirable, hiding behind the screen that she isn’t really “white.”Why isn’t the love interest, say, a WASP-y type?

Probably because most “WASPy types” aren’t members of the Mafia.

Actually, Will Smith has commented on this before.
The “brown” White woman is actually a more “marketable” substitute for a BLACK woman. Or, a light-skinned Black woman, who has historically been a substitute for a dark Black woman.
“Why isn’t the love interest, say, a WASP-y type?”
Perhaps your real question should be, “Why isn’t the love interest, say, a dark Black African-y type?”
But, I guess you’ve already been so conditioned to see Black men with White women that you feel a brunette is actually a racist compromise…from a Barbie?
LMFAO. Stoopid Americans…

Shanee, girl, you ain’t said nothing wrong yet. Let em’ know. It goes right down to mainstream music. Yes Beyonce is pretty, adn yes the girl has a set of pipes. But if you ask most black people, and this conversation does come often when you have get togethers, they will tell you that they think Kelly Rowland is prettier, sexier, more natural, and has the better voice. But who gets all the glory, and all the fame? Exactly. Samething in the case of India.Arie and A. Keys. Both of them came out at the same time. In truth, India.Arie is the deeper sister and has refused to sell out the way I think A. Keys has in terms of mainstream. Keys came off real down at first saying she was dedicated to her music. A few years later, with braids gone and her pimpin’ Proactive on the tv, I barely recognize her. Arie has remained true to herself and her music and is so much deeper and more talented than Keys. But does she even get the respect, or play that Keys gets? Nope. Beacuse this society still wants black flava with the white Savior. Beacuse in the end, you’ll hear people bumping A. Keys in the hood form time to time, but who she really sells to are the white suburban kids trying to be “down” with what’s hot. And she looks a little bit like them, but she’s just black enough to follow as a trendsetter. It’s all about the what sells. And being light, white, is still right. And that’s just a shame. Beyonce, Halle, A. Keys, Mya, they are all great. But what about people like India, Angela, Heather Headley, and Michele N’cendancheglo (she’s got so many strkes against her because she’s black, female, a lesbian and has an ethinic look and name)?
