Nicolas Cage: my son is exotic

CVK
nicolas cage(Thanks to Darla and Naomi for this one!) Oh no… not the dreaded “E” word!!! MSN News reports on Nicolas Cage’s take on the wacky name he picked for his son. Um, are all Asians now considered “dewy?” What’s up with that?

Nicolas Cage has an explanation as to why he and dewy wife Alice gave their son the Superman-inspired, playground-walloping moniker Kal-El. “We both wanted a name that was exotic and American and which stood for something good,” he tells “Access Hollywood,” “because our son is exotic and he’s an American and we both think he’s good.” Hey, we didn’t say it was a good explanation

I cringed when he said that. EXOTIC! Can we ban that word!? MMW needs to stay around long enough for that kid to grow up and log on to this site and learn some things! Good looking out, mom (and dad). NOT!!

The fact that they named their kid Kal-El itself is bad enough, and now with the kid’s own dad saying that he is exotic is really just too much. I really feel sorry for this kid. I’m also concerned that Nicolas Cage’s wife was OK with all of this.

A coworker just looked over my shoulder and asked me about what I was writing. After I explained it to her, she told me that she finds nothing wrong about the word exotic. She says that she thinks it means “rare, unique, and beautiful.” I told her that I think that the word exotic is objectifying and the fact that Nicolas Cage thinks of his own son as exotic just shows how he views mixed Asians and Asians. It really is frustrating how some people just don’t understand how some words can be so degrading.
