Mixed rapper Hush makes some noise

Detroit Free Press profiles Hush, a rapper signed to Geffen Records. Hush is mixed, and his racially ambiguous looks have provided his marketing team with a challenge:
Hush, the Detroit rapper set to release his major-label debut, “Bulletproof,” on Tuesday, is finding that his melding of hip-hop and rock music isn’t an easy sell to the commercial masses. Add his exotic looks — folks don’t know whether he’s black, biracial, Middle Eastern, white or what — and it makes the struggle all the more difficult…
Then there’s that pesky race issue. Hush, real name Daniel Carlisle, is Lebanese, Indian, Italian and Irish. People see him as a white rapper and because of his hometown alliance with Eminem — Em produced the first track on his Geffen Records project and makes an appearance on another — they want to pigeonhole him as a Slim Shady clone.
