2 consecutive nights of cross-burning
JC
It feels slightly ridiculous to keep posting about these cross-burning incidents. A part of me isn’t sure whether this is truly a new story, because these are all starting to sound too familiar. How many stories of cross-burnings have we seen in this past year alone?! This time, a cross was burned for *two* consecutive nights on the lawn of a black/white family’s house in Michigan. Of course, investigations are happening, but I would like to know what is being done to take *proactive* measures against these hate crimes?
The Detroit Free Press did not identify the couple, who fear retaliation. The wife, who is white, told the paper she woke up early Sunday to find a charred 5-foot cross on the front lawn of their suburban Detroit home.
The couple reported it to police, but the next day saw another cross, about 4 feet high, burning next to the window of the room where their daughter was sleeping. The couple also have a 7-year-old son.
The family moved into the house recently.
