ABC: “I really think it’s such a positive show”

RK
welcome to the neighborhoodICK ICK ICK! The greenlighting exec at ABC is Asian?!?! See Yahoo! News article.

“I didn’t think that people would be this nervous,” Andrea Wong, head of alternative programming at ABC, said before Wednesdays decision to ditch the show. “Because I really think its such a positive show and such a good thing to put on TV and cause viewers to look at themselves, I’m surprised by the negative reaction to it.”

While their intentions may have been noble, it seems ABC really has blinders on when it comes to how the nation truly ingests race issues on television. I honestly think its a stretch to think the average prime-time reality show viewer is going to be struck with some introspective epiphany and suddenly emerge a more tolerant, changed individual, thanks to some evening game-show. The original intentions are not a bad idea, really; it might be nice to see someone like PBS or channel 1 develop it for use in classrooms or diversity initiatives. I think the icky game-show feel to ABC’s production is what lost them love.
