There Goes “The Neighborhood”
RK
After multiple minority, social, and community organizations applied major pressure to the ABC TV network, as of 11:00 last night “Welcome to the Neighborhood” was officially pulled from airing (see articles at CNN and the New Haven Register). Gee, do you think it was because the idea of having minorities and LGBT families *compete* for acceptance into the “white” neighborhood was completely disgusting?? Is Larry Elder behind this somehow? What I have a really hard time swallowing is that this show wasn’t in conceptual discussions; the show had already been conceived of, planned, cast, *already taped* and edited, and it was ready to go to air in a few weeks!! How many people at ABC knew of this production and had the opportunity to speak up and say “hey! That’s racist!!” and didn’t? How many people at ABC didn’t find it racist? When I think of how many people at ABC were in on this, it just makes me sick and I can’t handle it. You can bet I’m swearing off that network, going forward. ABC/Disney should keep their miscegenation-fearing gentrification efforts focused on their strategically engineered vanilla-community of Celebration, FL.

I feel like cheering… or at least I would if my local news didn’t have at least one story per year about an “X” family feeling unwelcome in a historically “Y” neighborhood.
I’m not shocked this was on ABC. They hide away or cancel good new shows and refuse to release the rights so some other network can use them. They dont’ take care of the shows they have. They favor moronic shows like this. The only redeeming facet of ABC was ABCNews, but without Peter Jennings at the helm, I’m bored silly, and they’re getting just as shallow/lazy as the other stations. Personally, I think Disney went evil when they bought out the Muppets and left the creativity that went with them on the auction floor.

Apologies for the double post, but in my hatred for ABC in general, I forgot to add:
In my home neighborhood of Mt. Airy, Philadelphia, it’s the “normal” white people who compete to have neighbors as diverse as the pagans, the gay couple, and the ethnic minorities. It’s kind of a status thing around here.
