I guess May/December romance is today’s theme on Mixed Media Watch (though I find the Mary Kay thing really, really hard to stomach). Wednesday’s episode of “Home Delivery” featured a couple that was not only interracial, but had an age gap of 15 years:

Antwon and Michelle are very much in love–they’re engaged and have a six-month old daughter together. But Michelle’s parents oppose the relationship–partly because Antwon is 18 years old and their daughter is 33, but also because Antwon is black and Michelle is white.

So Home Delivery came to uh, save the day. They sat everyone down to talk, got the parents to come around, and then threw an engagement dinner for everyone. It was interesting to note that there was a lot of one-dropping going on. Antwon actually doesn’t identify just as black, but as mixed. At one point, he broached the race topic by asking Michelle’s parents “Do you have a problem with me being mixed?” and pointing out the fact that if they have a problem with his race, then they’ll have a problem with his daughter, because both of them are the same, i.e. mixed.

But of course the show stuck its fingers in its ears and was like “LALALALALALA whatever he’s just black.”
