More on VH1’s Race-o-rama: “In Race We Lust”

I too saw ‘In Race We Lust’ last night. I agree that it did a pretty good job of talking about lots of the stereotypes.
What i did not like were the sections where they polled the various interviewees about which mixed celeb is more this or that (insert race). Like asking people who they thought is ‘more black,’ Tiger Woods, Derrick Jeter, or Jason Kidd.
They spend the majority of the show talking about stereotypes, then turn around and use those stereotypes to define the ethnic identities of mixed celebs. They didn’t even ask the celebs they were comparing the same question. There was a short sound bite from Tyson about his ethnicity, but they didn’t ask him if he thinks he’s more Chinese than Naomi Cambell, for instance. Maybe they didn’t have the nerve to actually ask them directly, instead finding it easier and more entertaining to go behind their back to put them on the chopping block.
Aside from that gripe, i thought it touched on a lot of important issues that it probably opened some people’s eyes.

Such stupid questions as “Who is more Black?” are typical of the Race-O-Rama shows
