What’s black and white and sad all over?

CVK
in race we lustTragic mulattos, of course! The last segment of Ego Trip’s Race-O-Rama aired on VH1 last night and it was very funny, and really quite good. The episode was titled “In Race We Lust” and explored all the taboo and stereotypes surrounding interracial couples and their mixed-race offspring. People in the mixed community probably wouldn’t have learned anything new from the show, but this kind of thing almost never gets talked about on TV, so I’m glad they did it. Obviously, the show is satirical so I don’t expect total objectivity, but I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t try harder to dispel some of these racial stereotypes. If anything, they reinforced them. Stereotypes like: all black women are loud and short-tempered, all black men are sex gods, all Latina women are lustful and jealous, and so on. One of the best lines of the show came during the section on “good hair.” Asian-American Miss Info (yup, the one from Hot 97) said: “Good hair is the reason so many black men want to impregnate me.”
