Greg Pak deemed “best” of 2004 Asian pop culture

CVK
gregpakProps to Greg Pak! The Asian Pop columnists at SFGate.com gave him a shout-out in their “Best, the Worst and the Most Overlooked of 2004” wrap-up. Needless to say, Greg’s in the “best” category:

As if releasing his acclaimed first feature film, “Robot Stories,” and running the premier Web site for Asian-American indie filmmakers weren’t enough, director Greg Pak has added another cap to his Bartholomew Cubbins-esque stack of hats: this past fall, Marvel Comics hired him to pen a revival of its classic alien superhero Warlock (and, naturally, Pak managed to squeeze in an Asian-American in a key supporting role).

But wait — there’s more! The success of that series led Marvel to hand him the keys to the figurative Ferrari: Pak is now writing a limited series featuring the ever lovin’ Uncanny X-Men, Marvel’s most popular and profitable superhero team.

Not only that, but the limited series is the alleged final chapter in the Phoenix Saga … so Pak’s been given the comic-geek equivalent of the chance to write the Book of Revelations. If he unveils any more new chops in 2005, we’re going to begin suspecting he has mutant abilities.
